Tunnel of Trees

Pecan Alley, Scott, Arkansas

I’ve photographed along this stretch of highway, known as Pecan Alley because of the pecan trees that line both sides of the road and create a quiet, peaceful canopy of leaves, several times in different season of the year and in different lighting and weather conditions. But, the lighting conditions were incredible the morning I made this picture. The sun, which had risen about 15 minutes prior to my creating this shot, was still low on the horizon providing very low angled and warm lighting conditions. Of all the shots I made at this location, this one using my telephoto lens is my favorite. The lens’ compression effect caused the trees, which are 20 to 30 feet apart, to appear to be standing right next to each other creating an almost impenetrable wall and adding to the sense of being in a tunnel of trees. My settings were 400mm, f/40, 1/5 sec, 400 ISO.
