The Value of Persistence

I have been to the Old Mill in North Little Rock, Arkansas, many times over the years, and it is one of my favorite places to photograph. One of the things I have always wanted to photograph at the Old Mill was the rotating water wheel. Unfortunately, it seemed that every time I went to the mill, the wheel was not rotating for some reason. Finally, one day, I arrived to find the wheel was spinning and I was able to make one of my favorite images from the mill. Because I wanted to capture the motion of the wheel, I needed to use the longest shutter speed I could. Using an aperture of f/22 and an ISO of 100 gave me a shutter speed of 1.6 seconds which emphasized the rotation of the wheel while creating the smooth, silky look of the waterfall.
